After weeks of beta testing, Apple has finally started rolling out macOS Tahoe 26.6 to the public with bug fixes, security improvements, and a new feature that helps your Mac get ready for macOS 27 Golden Gate. This update comes almost one month after the release of macOS Tahoe 26.5.2, which included security improvements. According to the release notes of macOS Tahoe 26.6, “This update addresses bugs and security issues and also optimizes the Spotlight index in preparation for macOS 27.”
Since the new Siri AI on macOS 27 Golden Gate now supports features like Personal Context, it is essential for it to be tightly integrated with Spotlight Search so that Siri knows you across all your devices. Several users who installed the first developer beta of iOS 27 reported that Spotlight Indexing was taking too long, with some devices taking almost two weeks, depending upon the data present on the iPhone. This could very well apply to Macs as well, since they typically hold a majority of our documents and files, so it may even take longer than the iPhone.
With this process on macOS 26.6, your Mac will have plenty of time to index before the September release of macOS 27 Golden Gate, after which users can access the full power of the new Siri AI without any delay. Siri AI will support all Mac models with Apple silicon (M1 and later)
In addition to this, the following issues have been resolved in macOS 26.6, according to Apple:
- Fixed: macOS deprecation notifications incorrectly identify a host app as Intel-only when a system plugin loader, such as a Color Picker or Print Dialog Extension, loads x86 code into the host process. (174841181) (FB22512943)
- HealthKit – Fixed: Temporally-weighted average statistics queries for discrete quantity types such as Resting Heart Rate may return erroneously high values when samples overlap in time. (178157672)
- Messages – Fixed: HDR screenshots might appear garbled when sent in Messages. (180859837)
Apple keeps refining the software experience with every update, whilst also fixing security issues, and this update is no different. As mentioned on their Security Update webpage, macOS 26.6 includes fixes for a whopping 143 security vulnerabilities involving WiFi, WebKit, Model I/O, Siri, Safari, and many more.
Along with macOS Tahoe 26.6, Apple has also released macOS Sequoia 15.7.8 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.8 for users running older macOS versions.
