The latest softwares released by Apple a week ago to the public will prevent you to make FaceTime calls to some older devices. iOS 13.4, iPadOS 13.4 and macOS Catalina 10.15.4 users are unable to make FaceTime calls to devices running iOS 9.3.5 and iOS 9.3.6. iOS 9.3.6 is the latest software available for the iPhone 4s, iPad Mini WiFi + Cellular(1st Generation), iPad 2 WiFi + Cellular and iPad(3rd Generation) WiFi + Cellular. This update fixed an issue which could impact GPS performance and also fixed the bug where the system date and time could be incorrect. This update was released in July of last year.
Many users have reported this bug in the Apple Support community, Twitter and other platforms. Devices running any other versions of iOS and macOS like iOS 13.3.1 or macOS Catalina 10.15.3 can make FaceTime calls to devices running iOS 9.3.5 and iOS 9.3.6 without any issue. It’s is not clear it has been disabled by Apple’s servers or is simply a bug on iOS 13.4, iPadOS 13.4 and macOS Catalina 10.15.4.
At such critical times, where the pandemic has taken over, many users still use an older iPhone or iPad right now and they cannot communicate with other devices running the latest software through FaceTime.
