According to Deadline, the World War II film “Greyhound” played by Tom Hanks is scheduled to premiere on Apple TV +.

The film, which was also written by Hanks, focuses on an officer named George Krause who commanded the navy destroyer Greyhound during the Battle of the Atlantic. The film portrays Krause’s struggle with his own self-doubt and personal demon, but he eventually needs to prove that he is the person in charge.

“Greyhound” was originally scheduled to be released in the cinema on Father’s Day weekend, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sony Pictures opened a public bid to premiere the film on the digital storefront.

There was a bidding competition between streaming media services for airing rights, but Apple ultimately secured it. It is estimated that the company has spent about $70 million dedicated to air the film exclusively on Apple TV +.

Apple has not yet announced the official release date of the film, but Deadline said it may be coming soon.
