Apple has released macOS Catalina 10.15.5 Beta 5 to developers along with the releases of iOS 13.5, iPadOS 13.5, tvOS 13.4.5 and HomePod Software Version 13.4.5 to the public today. The build number for this update is 19F94a. The letter ‘a’ at the end of the build number indicates the gradual end of the beta cycle for the software because the software is almost ready for a public update. Apple has released this update two weeks after they released Beta 4.

Apple has fixed an issue in this update which would cause Finder to be unresponsive upon doing large data transfers to RAID volumes. According to Apple’s Release notes, “Large data transfers to RAID volumes no longer cause Finder to become unresponsive. (61307708)”

The main focus of this update is Battery Health Management feature which was announced earlier. Apple describes this feature as: “The battery health management feature in macOS 10.15.5 is designed to improve your battery’s lifespan by reducing the rate at which it chemically ages. The feature does this by monitoring your battery’s temperature history and its charging patterns.

Based on the measurements that it collects, battery health management may reduce your battery’s maximum charge when in this mode. This happens as needed to ensure that your battery charges to a level that’s optimized for your usage””reducing wear on the battery, and slowing its chemical aging.”

This feature is much like Optimised Battery Charging on iOS 13.
