The non-profit Locast, a live TV streaming service that enables users to stream their local stations for free, has added Tampa Bay, Florida to its coverage area.

Locast sent an email to users about the newly added area:

“With an active hurricane season forecast for this summer, unrest in our communities, as well as the re-opening of beaches during COVID-19, access to local TV is now more urgent than ever. Stay up to date with local news about the unrest, emergency updates, and storm coverage. Football fans also will be able to watch the first season of local games featuring Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski as they join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.”

President and chairman David Goodfriend of Locast said in a statement:

“For the first time, Floridians located anywhere within the Tampa DMA will be able to watch all of their local TV stations on their phones, tablets, laptops or streaming media devices,” said Goodfriend. “Local TV news provides the most up-to-date emergency and disaster information, and it broadcasts critical alerts about hurricanes and coronavirus-related restrictions. As long as local TV stations continue to broadcast during major storms, Locast will remain a lifeline to those living within the Tampa metro area.”

Those that live in Tampa Bay can immediately get free access to their local ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, NBC and PBS stations right from the service.

Locast is a free app in the App Store and consumers have the option to donate $5 a month to the organization to help keep it going, as well as eliminate the advertisement from the company when users change the channel and the 15-second promotion that airs after using the service for 15 minutes.

You can find Locast on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Apple TV and Mac.
