Could Face ID be coming to the Mac? First spotted by 9to5Mac, references to the TrueDepth camera were found on some iPhone and iPad devices in macOS Big Sur Beta 3.

The extension ‘PearlCamera’, which is the internal codename for the TrueDepth camera and Face ID was discovered in the latest macOS 11 system extensions code. Within the code terminology such as ‘FaceDetect’ and ‘BioCapture’ were also discovered. This essentially confirms that Apple is preparing a new Faced ID-enabled Mac for release.

The only Mac devices with biometric features are the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro which currently support Touch ID integrated into the power button.

Face ID was introduced back in 2017 with the iPhone X as a more secure way to unlock your device, authorize app purchases, & pay securely with Apple Pay.
