After the ‘One More Thing’ November event, Apple confirmed the release date of macOS Big Sur, their biggest update to macOS in years. The new software will be available on Thursday, November 12th, 2020.

macOS Big Sur was announced earlier this year at WWDC. From a new, sleek design, to new features, this update is shaping up to be a turning point for macOS.

The new software version features a new design language, with a return to skeuomorphism for app icons. Also, a new, sleek interface makes it easier to do the things you love on your Mac. A new Control Center and Notification Center, as well as widgets from iOS 14 make the user experience better than ever.

Apps like Maps, Messages, Safari and Photos were completely revamped, with new interfaces and a deep focus on privacy. But besides the new coat of paint most apps received, a faster, more streamlined experience for users is at the core of this new update.

But the main focus of this update, besides refusing macOS, is to pave the way for Apple Silicon. After the new lineup was announced at the November Special Event, it was clear what macOS is doing to help the Intel-to-ARM transition. With tools like Rossetta 2 and the introduction of iOS apps on Mac, it will change the way users interact and work on their Mac.

macOS Big Sur is supported on a grand variety of Mac computers, listed below:

  • iMac: 2014 or later.
  • MacBook Air: 2013 or later.
  • iMacPro: 2017 or later.
  • MacBook Pro: 2013 or later.
  • Mac Pro: 2013 or later.
  • MacBook: 2015 or later.
  • Mac mini: 2014 or later.
