This by no means an ad from the folks at Day One Journal, but as an avid user of the service, I thought it would be a good time to tell you why you might want to consider using it this year.

2020 was one of the hardest years for the United States and the world overall. We saw mental health get worse and worse all over the world, whether it was because of the coronavirus pandemic and not being able to see or be around loved ones, riots and protests or even just dealing with school and classes.

Those reasons alone made us write the article on what apps and services you can use this year to help manage your mental health and be a little happier.

Day One Journal is mentioned in it. It is an app that essentially is a journal into your personal life. Not only that, but it is arguable the best one for the iPhone, iPad and Mac. It even has an Apple Watch app too.

I started using Day One while I was in college and looking for an escape from the school, classmates and to try and improve my writing.

Since I began using it, I have never wanted to not use it. It saves me money by me not having to buy more physical journals from Walmart or Target, and it is a service where it just works. Even when I do not have an internet connection, I can still write in it. Once I’m back on Wi-Fi, all of my journals sync again.

The biggest reason you should be using Day One is that journaling is one of the best ways to get everything out of your head and somewhere else, yet still giving you the privacy that you want.

You would not believe how good I feel sometimes when I let it all out in my primary journal. While you may still be a little angry or irritated in the end, a part of you will feel good for taking that anger or frustration out on something.

Another feature that I use from it is using multiple journals. Obviously, I have my primary journal where my thoughts and ideas run rampant from everyday life, but I have a couple others that I use to keep track and manage article ideas for Appleosophy and my personal blog.

With Day One, there is no need to have that pen and paper on you to keep track of ideas. You’ll always have your iPhone on you, therefore, you’ll never be without your journals.

There is also no need to worry about security, as Day One can be set up so you either have to open it up with Touch ID or Face ID, or with a four-digit passcode. Either way, all of your information and data will be secure.

All in all, it’s just a good app to have to keep track of your thoughts and life itself. If you do it so often, you’ll find yourself getting notifications for “On This Day,” which is a feature when it shows you what you wrote on that day last year or however many years ago you wrote a journal entry on that date.

Day One Journal is available on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch.
