Apple is offering free repairs for eligible Apple Watch Series 5 and Apple Watch SE users with charging issues where the watch would not charge after going into Power Reserve mode. watchOS 7.3.1 was released to fix this issue, but if this issue still isn’t fixed, your Apple Watch Series 5 or Apple Watch SE might be eligible for a free repair.

Apple says that a very small number of Apple Watch Series 5 and Apple Watch SE owners might have experienced issues with their device not charging after entering Power Reserve Mode on watchOS 7.2 or watchOS 7.3. While Apple has already released a Software Update to fix this issue, but if this issue still persists after updating, Apple recommends placing your Apple Watch on the charger you normally use for at least 30 minutes and if it still doesn’t charge, you’ll need to contact Apple Support to set up a mail-in repair free of charge. Your Apple Watch will be examined first for eligibility of this free repair.

Users can also have a backup of their watch ready before they send it in for repairs. It is automatically backed up by their iPhone but if one wants to have the latest backup available on the paired iPhone, they would need to unpair the Apple Watch from their iPhone, that will create a backup and erase all contents and settings on the Apple Watch. The advantage of this is that when your Apple Watch is unpaired within the range of the iPhone, your watch can be immediately backed up by your iPhone but if the iPhone is out of range when you unpair, the latest data might not be available once the backup is restored since a fresh backup wasn’t taken during the unpairing process. When an iPhone is backed up to a computer or iCloud, it will include this Apple Watch Data and if the Apple Watch has been set up for a family member, the data is backed up directly to iCloud.
