The upcoming redesigned MacBook Pro models have been in the rumor mill for several months. Bloomberg reported that we could see them as soon as this summer. WWDC 2021 came and go with no hardware announcements, but we could still see them as soon as Q4 of this year. According to Dylandkt, Apple will launch the updated MacBook Pros alongside the Mac mini in Q4 2021. While this source has had a mixed track record of leaks, he correctly reveal the details for both the M1 iMac and M1 iPad Pro.
These upcoming machines will feature the higher-end version of Apple Silicon based on the M1 chip. Supposedly dubbed the “M1X”, this system-on-a-chip will overcome the limitations that the M1 chip has. With the M1X, not only the MacBook Pro and Mac mini will have faster performance from the additional CPU/GPU cores, but also they will contain more Thunderbolt ports and multiple external monitor support.
Last year, Jon Prosser reported that a revamped Mac mini is in the works with a dramatic redesign, more Thunderbolt ports, and the same AC port used in the M1 iMac. Apple currently sells the higher-end Mac mini, 13-inch, and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with Intel processors. We’ve seen Apple release new MacBook Pro and Mac mini models by the end of the year before such as the 16″ MacBook Pro and M1 Mac models. As the fourth quarter approaches, Apple is looking to replace those Intel-based models with the upcoming models.
