According to Macotakara, the next-generation iPhone SE is set to retain its current design, but will feature 5G cellular connectivity and Apple’s latest A15 chip found in the iPhone 13 lineup. Apple plans to launch upcoming model in early 2022.
The iPhone SE has remained in the iPhone lineup as Apple’s most budget-friendly option starting at $399. The iPhone SE was originally introduced in March 2016 as a low-cost alternative to the then-flagship iPhone 6s (introduced in September 2015). While the original SE packed the same design as the iPhone 5s, both the iPhone 6s and iPhone SE 1 featured the A9 chip. After the iPhone 11 was introduced in September 2019, the company brought back the iPhone SE in April 2020. That model sports the same design as the iPhone 8, but shares the then-latest A13 chip found in the iPhone 11.
Macotakara expects production to commence in December with a launch in spring 2022, which follows the same release schedule for the previous iPhone SE models. Recycling the current design for the SE will likely help Apple keep the same starting price point. Other sources reported that the next iPhone SE could get a Plus-sized model with a Touch ID side button.
