Apple has announced today that it is partnering with the Boys & Girls Club so the company can offer coding opportunities for kids.
This new program is being done through Apple’s Community Education Initiative and is also set to support its Racial Equity and Justice Initiative.
Kids are set to get free iPads and free Everyone Can Code curriculum that will teach kids how to code using Swift, as well as teaching critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
Lisa Jackson, Apple’s vice president of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, said this is a great time for a program like this to exist.
“At Apple, we believe education is a force for equity, and that all learners should have the opportunity to explore and develop coding skills for their future,” she said. “Together with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we’ve already introduced thousands of students to innovative technology experiences, and we are thrilled to expand our partnership to bring coding with Swift to even more communities across the country.”
The program is set to launch in the U.S. in the following areas of the country:
- Atlanta, GeorgiaÂ
- Austin, Texas,Â
- Metro Washington D.C.Â
- Miami-Dade County in Florida
- Wake County, North Carolina
- Silicon Valley in California
Apple also said that the program has already launched in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Chicago, Illinois, Detroit, Michigan, Nashville, Tennessee and Newark, New Jersey.
