Opinion: One year later with my AirPods Max

Review: AirPods Max in 2022

This time last year, after recently purchasing a pair of AirPods 3 from the Apple Store on Black Friday, I also decided it was time to get some great quality headphones too.

At the time, I was facing an issue in my apartment when a neighbor that had recently moved in had a couple of dogs that would not be quiet during the day. For someone like me who is introverted and does writing as a hobby and creative outlet, we do not need our peace and quiet in order to function and get the work done.

There was a day where the dogs  next door barked early that morning and I was up, and then they were barking non-stop for over two hours and I reached my breaking point to where I made a trip all the way out to one of my local Target stores to get a blue pair of AirPods Max.

Over the duration of the past year, I have come to do just about everything with these headphones down to listening to music and podcasts, watching videos on my iPhone or iPad from there, as well as make and take calls from them. They block out all of the sounds around me and enable me to listen to what is truly going on.

When it comes to the overall sound quality, that’s another place where these headphones stand out. The bass has been impeccable and flawless.

I have heard great-sounding music from songs like “Movin’ (After Hours)” by David Archuleta, “Underground” by Cody Fry, and “Obliviate” by Alexandre Desplat. AirPods Max truly make you feel as though the artist is performing right in your home and next to you. Like you’re in the front row at a concert.

As for the design, I still do love the use of the Digital Crown from the Apple Watch being on these to control the volume of the headphones. It’s kind of a clever idea and better than having to constantly press a button to go up or down, or deal with bad touch-based controls.

The only other previous headphones that I had before the AirPods Max were Beats Solo wired headphones I had while I was in college. They were good for their time and did help me with some noise cancellation (and giving me my introverted need to ignore certain people).

However, even after a little over a year now of having the AirPods Max, they are still the best headphones I have ever owned. They’re simplistic, look great, and have the best sound quality of any headphones I have ever used or tried in stores.

What are your thoughts on the AirPods Max? Do you own a pair, and if so, how much do you like them? Comment below or let us know on Twitter at @appleosophy.
