Back in 2019, about a month after I graduated from college with my bachelor’s degree, it was time to get a new vehicle for myself.
My car at the time was a 2008 Nissan Versa which had a faulty/declining transmission. Since that car got me through about four years of college and jobs, it made sense for the car to be falling a part. I wasn’t happy about it, but it was something that just needed to be replaced.
I ended up purchasing a 2016 Hyundai Accent. However, the display on the dashboard looks fairly old and the car doesn’t even have Bluetooth support. Very weird indeed.
Fast forward a few years later and even though I am not in the market for a new vehicle, I am in the market to have CarPlay. It may sound nice to get something that is more integrated with my car. However, I don’t want to pay the money for that, especially since I do not know how long I will have my current vehicle. It’s not bad by any means. I just don’t know how much longer I’ll have it.
With all of that said, I’d love to get an external display to view CarPlay on. Not just for that, but one of the most important uses of it for me would be Apple Maps. I live in Des Moines and often run into the issue of having to use Apple Maps to get around in unfamiliar areas.
Instead of having to look down at my iPhone 12 Mini, it’d be nice to have something on my windshield on the inside to show both Apple Maps and Apple Music. Listening to Apple Podcasts on it could be useful too.
Making calls could be great, as that can be nice if you’re really needing information in that moment and don’t want to hold an iPhone up to your ear while driving. I know products like the Apple Watch have the feature to make and receive calls on them, but I have never found the speakers on the Apple Watch to be that good when listening to calls.
With having almost all other products in pretty every capacity possible (iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, AirPods, AirTags, etc), adding CarPlay to that collection, in terms of a feature, would make me immensely happy and give me something new this spring and summer to try out when the weather will be much warmer.
As for when it will happen? I don’t have an exact date right now, but I do have a birthday coming up within a couple of months, so maybe I’ll treat myself.
