iMessage support coming to Windows 11 users

Microsoft announced this morning on its blog that Windows 11 users are getting support for Apple’s iMessage on their Windows 11 devices.

The company has also stated that support for most users should be available by mid-May 2023.

This is all being done through the Phone Link app on Windows 11. Once the Windows 11 Phone Link app and iOS Phone Link app are connected, users have the ability to send and receive text messages, make and receive phone calls, and view all of their iPhone notifications.

With that said, the app is still limited in the sense that users cannot see or send GIFs, photos, videos, or be a part of group chats. The text messages do appear as gray bubbles in the chats too, whereas iMessage typically has blue and green chat bubbles.

Those that plan to use their iPhone to do this must be running at least iOS 14 on it. The Phone Link app and feature overall are not supported on the iPad or Mac.

This announcement comes a day after Apple recently updated a couple of its apps on Windows 11 too.
