Review: Apple Magic Keyboard

Avatar for David Becker

Last week, I was able to purchase the Bluetooth Apple Magic Keyboard at Best Buy for my computer at work.

For those that do not know, I have been previously using an old wired Apple keyboard. Something below the Return/Enter key snapped one day when I was using it and the key would get stuck when it was pressed in a certain position.

Well, I am, like many people, reliant on my keyboard at work to get said work done, so not having a primary key was going to be an issue for me. After work that day, I ran over to Best Buy, the new Apple Magic Keyboard, and plugged it into my work computer, and it has been that way for almost an entire week.

My work computer is a Windows 10 PC, so I have this keyboard wired in just in case I am typing and it loses its Bluetooth connection. I don’t want to deal with the inconveniences of that while at work.

When it comes to the overall design of this keyboard, it is slim and minimalistic, which is something Apple has always been good at. With this design though, it does also scream luxurious because of the metal unibody. This isn’t the type of cheap keyboard you’ll find at an electronic store or Goodwill/thrift store junk pile. It is a high-quality-looking keyboard.

However, what impressed me the most was typing on this keyboard. It already feels so comfortable. On top of that, the keys seem bigger than on my old wired Apple keyboard. This a good thing since I have long fingers and enjoy having bigger keys to use. It is something I wish Apple would adopt with its default iPhone keyboard.

Obviously with being a writer, you always need to have a comfortable and functional keyboard, and the Apple Magic Keyboard is exactly that. When I was typing on it, not only was it quieter than my previous Apple keyboard, but the travel space between keys was nothing short of excellent. It’s almost like it was made for writers or people who are trying to be productive on their keyboards.

Despite the keyboard being quieter than its predecessors, it still does have some satisfactory clicks and sounds to it that leave me typing for more. Best of all, it doesn’t have your typical Corporate America desktop keyboard sound you hear in many workplaces and offices around the country.

At the end of the day, it is an excellent keyboard that is right up there with the Magic Keyboard case on the iPad Air and iPad Pro. It gets a 4/4-star rating from me because of its design and highly comfortable keys for a writer like myself.

Rating: 4/4 stars
