Apple has recently announced an extension of the free usage period for the Emergency SOS via satellite feature on iPhone 14 models. Initially, iPhone 14 users were offered two years of free access to this service from the time of device activation. However, Apple has now decided to extend this offer for an additional two years according to a press release. This extension means that both iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 users will see their free periods end around the same time, in September 2025.
The Emergency SOS via satellite feature enables users to send short text messages to emergency services even in areas without Wi-Fi or cellular signal. For iPhone 15 users, the service also includes contacting roadside assistance in case of a vehicle breakdown.
