Now that the Vision Pro officially launched yesterday, Apple has published several support articles that provide even more details on what the Vision Pro is capable of.
When Apple introduced the Vision Pro last June, one of its highlighted features was that you could use Vision Pro as a virtual external display in 4K resolution. However, back then, it was unclear whether that feature would be supported on some older Macs as Apple showcased that feature on a modern MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon.
Now, we’ve got a clarification from Apple’s support article. Macs with Intel processors will be limited to extending to Vision Pro at only 3K resolution. Macs with Apple Silicon will be capable of projecting at 4K resolution.
To use your Mac with Vision Pro, you’ll need to have the latest version of macOS Sonoma installed. Make sure your Mac and Vision Pro are under your Apple ID with two-factor authentication turned on and have both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on.
macOS Sonoma is supported on the following Mac models:
- MacBook Air (2018 and later)
- MacBook Pro (2020 and later)
- iMac (2019 and later)
- iMac Pro
- Mac mini (2018 and later)
- Mac Studio (2022 and later)
- Mac Pro (2019 and later)
