Over the last several months, I have taken steps to improving my TV setup in my apartment.
This all started last year when I purchased an Apple TV 4K with Ethernet third generation during Apple’s 2023 Black Friday promotion at its retail stores.
From there, the big purchase came this past February when I replaced my previous 50-inch 2006 Vizio HDTV (yes, you read that right) with a brand new 50-inch LG UHD 4K TV from Best Buy. With the new TV and Apple TV 4K, it allowed me to see and stream 4K content, including this year’s Super Bowl via FuboTV.
Now, this past weekend and the weekend before that, I purchased two blue HomePod Minis (one for each weekend). For a while, I have wanted to do this and how I have it setup is by having both of the HomePod Minis paired as a Stereo Pair which are then also paired to my Apple TV 4K, which enables the sound to go through both of the HomePod Mini speakers and not my regular TV speakers.
Best of all, unlike my regular LG TV, I can now control the volume of the content playing from my HomePod Mini speakers right from the Siri Remote, whereas previously when the sound came out of my LG TV by default, I had to use the LG TV remote in order to adjust the volume. It’s all better when I can just use one remote, the Siri Remote, to control it all.
As for why I did all of this? Well, Best Buy had a sale on one for the first weekend so I splurged and got it. This past weekend when I bought the second one”¦it was the day of my birthday so I went over to the Apple Store and bought another blue HomePod Mini for its regular $99 price.
Once I got home, I got everything set up and now have what I would say is a pretty nice setup for watching TV shows and movies on.
Another reason that I upgraded all of this now is because of the May 2024 Apple Event that is scheduled to happen tomorrow. I wanted to see that it will be like to stream the event with that kind of sound, and look forward to streaming the WWDC 2024 keynote through the same setup next month.
What I have noticed more about the sound in my short time with this audio upgrade from the HomePod Minis is the sound is clearer, but you can feel how close the audio is. It’s hard to explain but the sound is certainly bombastic when it needs to be.
Throughout the next few weeks, I’ll be testing it out because on top of having a large To Be Read (TBR), I have a list of TV shows and movies I want to watch on it with this new upgrade.
