SEPTA adding support for Apple Pay Express Mode in Philadelphia

Avatar for David Becker

It has been recently announced by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) that it payment readers are in the process of being upgraded so that they support Apple Pay with Express Mode.

By adding support for this feature, it enables Apple Pay users to tap their iPhone or Apple Watch next to the reader without having to wake or unlock the screen of their device.

Upgrades for this have been happening since this past Monday in select SEPTA Metro stations, along with buses in the Greater Philadelphia area.

Express Mode is restricted to credit and debit cards added in the Wallet app. At this time, it is still not possible to add the SEPTA Key fare card to the Wallet app.
