Businesses still needing to accept Apple Pay in 2025

During the last couple of years, Apple Pay has made great strides in getting accepted at more and more businesses across the U.S., with 2024 being another very successful year for that.

Last year, the two major companies that began accepting Apple Pay were The Home Depot and Texas-based grocery store chain H-E-B. Another smaller victory was the Culver’s app getting support for Apple Pay too.

It may sound as though Apple Pay has gone full circle as a payment method that was once met with resistance from companies and businesses but has now been accepted without much question or thought.

With that said, we do still have some businesses that need to bring Apple Pay to their stores and apps. Here are those companies:

  • Walmart: This one is an easy given. Walmart, as one of the country’s biggest retailers, still does not accept Apple Pay in its stores or online. Its stores in Canada accept it but not here in the U.S.

  • Amazon: Once again, this company is the country’s largest online retailer and it still does not accept Apple Pay on its app or website. It would be nice to see it get Apple Pay support this year.

  • Hobby Lobby: Even though the company does technically accept Apple Pay on its app and website, it does not accept it currently inside its stores which is where the most of its customers will likely go.

  • Barnes & Noble: This one is the opposite here where its stores accept Apple Pay but its app and website do not. With competition from online outlets like ThriftBooks, PangoBooks, and AbeBooks, it would be great to see Apple Pay be added as a payment method through the B&N app and website this year.

  • Books-A-Million (BAM): It’s very similar to Barnes & Noble where BAM stores accept Apple Pay but its website does not. Heck, BAM doesn’t even have a mobile app, which you would think would be unheard of in 2025. I’d like to see not only an app for this year from BAM, but Apple Pay acceptance online as well.
