Apple has started rolling out iOS 18.6.2 and iPadOS 18.6.2 to the public with an important security fix. These updates come one week after the release of iOS 18.6.1 and watchOS 11.6.1, which restored Blood Oxygen Monitoring for the Apple Watch for some models in the U.S.
According to the Release Notes:
“This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users. For information on the security content of Apple software updates, please visit this website:

Upcoming updates to iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 are now expected to only include refinements and security patches as the company gears up for iOS/iPadOS 26. iOS 18.6.2 and iPadOS 18.6.2 include a fix for an important security flaw. This should be a very important security fix, as they have pushed out an update just for one security flaw. Here’s how Apple describes the issue:
“ImageIO:
Impact: Processing a malicious image file may result in memory corruption. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals.
Description: An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved bounds checking.“
These updates are available on all devices that support iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, including:
- iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max
- iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max
- iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max
- iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max
- iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max
- iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max
- iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and iPhone XR
- iPhone SE (3rd generation)
- iPhone SE (2nd generation)
- iPad Pro (2nd generation and later)
- iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
- iPad (6th generation and later)
- iPad mini (5th generation and later)
Along with iOS 18.6.1 and iPadOS 18.6.1, Apple also rolled out iPadOS 17.7.10 for older devices, fixing the same security issue.
