After weeks of beta testing, Apple has finally started rolling out macOS Tahoe 26.5 to the public with key new features and changes. This update comes one month after the release of macOS Tahoe 26.4.1, which included bug fixes. In addition to new features, this update is expected to bring more stability in performance and battery life for users running previous versions.
According to Apple’s Release Notes, “This update includes enhancements, bug fixes and security updates for your Mac.”
Although the release notes do not mention any new features, macOS 26.5 still includes new ecosystem-based features such as End-to-end encrypted RCS messaging with Android devices in Messages, Suggested Places and Ads in Apple Maps.
Apple is also enabling new App Store subscription options for developers with the release of version 26.5, allowing potential subscribers to commit to a 12-month plan with an option to pay for it monthly instead of paying for a full year in one go.
macOS Tahoe 26.5 includes a new “Power control setting in Energy for Mac mini, Mac Studio, and iMac enables you to power off or restart your Mac using assistive accessories like switches”, according to Apple as noted by 9to5Mac.
Apple keeps refining the software experience with every update, whilst also fixing security issues. macOS Tahoe 26.5 includes fixes for more than 65 security vulnerabilities, so it is an essential update for your Mac security.
This update is currently available for all devices that support macOS Tahoe, including:
- MacBook Air with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
- MacBook Neo (2026)
- MacBook Pro with Apple silicon (2020 and later)
- MacBook Pro 16-inch (2019) with an Intel chipset
