iOS 27 rumored to feature Split View mode, potentially for iPhone Ultra

We’re less than a week away from Apple introducing iOS 27 at WWDC 2026. While we expect more intelligent features to be the main focus, there’s one feature that’s rumored for iOS 27. According to a leaker known as “Fixed Focus Digital” on Weibo, Apple is working on a new adaptive “Split View” mode for iOS. This could be Apple’s take on the Parallel View feature in Huawei’s HarmonyOS, which allows smartphone apps to automatically adapt to landscape mode or run side by side at the system level.

iPadOS has had a system-level feature that lets apps dynamically resize or adapt to both portrait and landscape modes, so developers wouldn’t need to rebuild their apps. However, on iOS, this could be a problem, as most apps are developed in only the vertical orientation. But with the upcoming iPhone Ultra in anticipation, I’d suspect this feature will be reserved for that foldable smartphone, as it’s rumored to have a 7.8-inch inner display, which is almost as large as the current iPad mini at 8.3 inches. With this upcoming feature, apps designed in a taller, narrower orientation could finally take full advantage of the expansive inner display by using every pixel, potentially appearing similar to how they would look on an iPad. So apps will be optimized whether in full-screen mode or in Split View.

Earlier rumors suggested that iOS 27 would also largely prioritize exclusive features that will be optimized for the upcoming iPhone Ultra, so this upcoming feature looks more promising than ever.
