Earlier this week, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee claimed that Apple’s most ambitious all-glass iPhone design to celebrate the 20th anniversary since the original iPhone launched has apparently been canceled. Although all hopes might be lost at first, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg claimed otherwise, stating that this redesign is still on track for late next year. According to Mark Gurman, the 20th anniversary iPhone will feature glass on both the front and back sides, and those glass sides will even extend beyond the edges for a visually continuous appearance. The result would consist of an even thinner metal frame that’s sandwiched between the glass sides, similar to what we’ve seen with the designs of the iPhone 4 and iPhone X.
It’s possible that Lee was referring to this more ambitious design that would use more glass; however, Gurman implied that this specific design was discarded earlier in development. On the contrary, Lee’s report appeared to suggest that this all-glass design would be reserved for an entirely new model, and he added that the Jefferies analysts believed Apple’s vision was to extend that all-glass design to future Pro models. There’s currently no word of a potential additional model in the lineup. So the future for this all-glass iPhone and the lineup overall remains to be seen.
The iPhone 20 Pro, as we could like to call it based on current rumors, is expected to feature the A21 Pro chip, and it will continue to come in two sizes, potentially with incremental increases in screen sizes for both models. The iPhone 20 Pro will likely launch in September 2027 alongside the second-generation iPhone Ultra foldable.
