Apple has officially announced its next leap forward in personal wellness with the Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and a completely reimagined Health app. Arriving alongside iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 later this year, the overhauled Health app uses Apple Intelligence to turn raw fitness metrics into personalized, actionable guidance.
On iPhone and iPad, the Health app undergoes its most comprehensive redesign to date via iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. Anchoring the new layout is an Insights tab, which aggregates heart, sleep, readiness, and vitals data into daily actionable summaries. Apple Intelligence powers a new “For You” section that delivers contextual wellness recommendations tailored directly to your routine. All personal data remains strictly encrypted, ensuring your health records stay private and entirely under your control.
A brand-new Longevity tab tracks longitudinal data across cardiovascular function, metabolic health, sleep, and mental wellbeing. Central to this view is “Health Age,” which compares your biological trends against your chronological age using metrics like resting heart rate, VO2 max, and HRV. For the first time, users can also complete guided movement assessments—evaluating balance, flexibility, and strength—using the iPhone camera and on-device computer vision models, entirely without recording or uploading video footage.
To bridge consumer tracking with clinical diagnostics, U.S. users will soon be able to book routine blood work covering over 50 biomarkers for $119 at roughly 2,000 Quest Diagnostics locations directly via the app. Lab results pair with tailored video explanations from clinical experts, outlining personalized exercise plans and lifestyle adjustments to improve specific metrics like LDL or balance.
Heart rate variability (HRV) also receives a substantial overhaul, logging measurements every five minutes—a 24-fold increase in frequency. The system categorizes these readings into Recovery HRV for daily recovery tracking and Overall HRV for broader cardiovascular assessment. Users can now view both daytime and overnight vitals to spot physiological shifts before sleep disruptions appear.
The Health app in iOS 27 also expands reproductive health monitoring by introducing dedicated tracking for perimenopause and menopause. Users aged 40 and older will receive proactive notifications if logged cycle deviations align with early perimenopausal patterns, helping them consult their physicians sooner. The update also adds critical safety alerts, such as prompts to contact a doctor if bleeding is logged post-menopause, alongside expert-led educational content.
