Apple still offers the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus on their website for purchase. While the iPhone SE is Apple’s attempt at a budget phone as it costs only £349, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are Apple’s semi-budget phone in a way as the 6S is priced at £449 and the larger 6S Plus is priced at £549.

Display

Getting into specifics, the iPhone 6S offers a 4.7-inch LCD display whereas the 6S Plus offers a larger, nicer 5.5- inch display. The resolution of the iPhone 6S display is 1334 x 650 at 326 pixels-per-inch (ppi) whereas the larger 5.5- inch display rocks a higher resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 401 ppi. Both phones offer the 3D touch technology as well as both displays being of Apple’s Retina HD displays. The contrast ratio of the 6S is 1400:1 whereas the 6S Plus’ contrast ratio is lower as expected at 1300:1 due to the display being of a larger size.

Colour

Both models are available to purchase in the same 4 colors: Rose Gold, Gold, Silver and Space Grey. 32GB and 128GB are the only 2 capacities both of these phones can be purchased in so before buying, think carefully about how much storage you need now as well as how much you might need in 1-2 years’ time, depending on how long you plan on keeping this phone. The 6S weighs 143 grams and the 6S Plus as expected weighs 192 grams.

Specs and Touch ID

In terms of specs, both iPhones sport the A9 chip with 64 ”“ bit architecture with the M9 motion coprocessor which is quite powerful and efficient when it comes to gaming and other intensive tasks you might do on your iPhone. Both phones feature the same Camera & Video Recording features.

Both iPhones also feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor which can also be utilized to make payments for products you might purchase in store or purchases made through the Apple Store or Apple app using the Apple Pay feature which is available to use is dozens of countries already.

iOS and Performance

Both iPhones are also currently running the latest iOS 11.3 software; and for a phone that is close to being 4 years old, it runs iOS 11 remarkably smoothly. I personally use an iPhone 6, and my experience on the iPhone 6 has been positive. Battery life is great and the overall performance when using my iPhone 6 is smooth. And on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, it will only be better and even more smoother. Games also run quite smoothly on the 6S, even though the phone can become a bit hot when continuously playing graphic intensive/CPU intensive games for more than 20 mins at a time. Battery life is great too. You can get at least 5 hours out of your iPhone with moderate usage; I get about 4-5 hours from my iPhone 6 if I use 4G during the day but 6 hours at least if I just use WIFI throughout the day. Battery life will decrease a bit if you play games during the day as games require more power than your every day activities, e.g. going through Instagram/Twitter feed.

Overall, I think for an average user that just wants a semi-powerful phone and carry out their everyday tasks while still being up to date with what’s going around in the world, the iPhone 6S is the perfect phone as it also features the headphone jack and still is powerful and will be supported by the latest iOS updates for about 2 more years. Performance is good, battery life is good, the storage options are reasonable and for £449, it is reasonably priced and is a good purchase even now in 2018 in my opinion.
