Students, young people as a whole, are known to download apps onto their smartphones, tablets and anything they can get their hands on.

As part of our Back to School series, there are some apps for the Mac that are considered a must for Mac users:

  • Pastebot: This app saves all of the information that you copy on your Mac, meaning that every time you use a function like Command + C, the app will automatically save it. This comes in handy when writing papers and doing almost anything that requires you copying text and photos. Pastebot is $12.99 in the Mac App Store.

  • Evernote: Note-taking is a huge part of college, so being able to type them out is a lot easier and faster than writing them (at least it was for me in college). Evernote is available for free in the Mac App Store and also available on the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

  • Microsoft Word: As much as I prefer Pages over Word, I know that many others prefer Word. It has a pretty good design to it and is a free app in the Mac App Store. There is a catch to it though. You’ll either have to get an Office 365 subscription or sign-in through your college student email, which will more than likely give you access to Office 365.

  • Tweetbot: Have a bit of a Twitter addiction and don’t want to get caught checking on class in your smartphone? Tweetbot is an excellent choice for a Mac Twitter app.  I have been using it since the first week I got my Mac back in 2014. It is the app to have for all of your Twitter needs. Tweetbot for Mac currently costs $9.99 in the Mac App Store.

  • Grammarly: Yes, the service has a great browser extension available for browsers like Safari and Google Chrome. However, they also have a great free app that allows you to copy-and-paste text from apps like Pages, Microsoft Word and others so that you can still get its services without having it embedded or connected to the app you are using, while also making sure that your spelling, grammar and punctuation is the way it should be. To get Grammarly for Mac, click here.

Did we miss any other big apps or notable ones? Let us know in the comments below. If more are added, we might just make this a weekly thing until college starts next month.
