According to 9to5Mac, eBay is set to be getting ready to accept Apple Pay on their website. With that said, it will not be out immediately.Â
Instead, it will be rolled out gradually throughout the service and is set to start coming to the online shopping and bidding platform sometime this fall.
One of the reasons why this is being done is that since eBay and PayPal parted ways in 2015, the service has been looking for a new default payment method.
Steve Fisher, eBay’s SVP of Payments, said in a statement:
“Apple Pay is one of the most ubiquitous forms of payments and provides users with an easy, fast and secure way to pay. Offering Apple Pay as a form of payment on eBay is the first step in providing more choice and flexibility in payment options to our tens of millions of buyers.”
Right now, the only place Apple Pay on eBay is going to is a select number of Marketplace sellers. eBay has said that they do not expect it to be fully on the platform until 2021.
The interface will likely look like the ones you see on other Apple Pay-enabled apps like Target and Best Buy’s where you press the Apple Pay or “Buy with Apple Pay” button in order to use Apple Pay to buy the item.
