Apple TV App Review: Winter Fireplace

Avatar for David Becker

Although the first day of winter is not until December 21st, 2018, for those of you who have an Apple TV and no fireplace, this could be the app for you.

There is no rule that you can only use this app in the winter and since it is getting pretty cold in some places in the country, you may want to use an app like this to maybe not feel warm, but it is something that can calm your nerves after a long day of work.

That is where Winter Fireplace comes into play. All you have to do is turn your TV and Apple TV on (which can be done simultaneously with the newest versions of the Apple TV and Siri Remote), load the app and then choose which type of fire you want to look at. They are played on a loop, so it never ends.

Another thing that makes this app great is that you can hear the crackling of the fire. This is not something where you just see a fire. You hear it too. It all sounds pretty realistic to the actual thing, making it one of the best fireplace apps in the tvOS App Store.

The only downside to the app is that you cannot have it play music while it is being used. If you’re someone that is going to be using this during the holidays, you can only have it “play” the fire. It will not be able to load any music from streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, Pandora or iHeart Radio.

Other than that, it’s a pretty good app. It does have premium add-ons that basically come with different kinds of fires and the fireplaces they are in. There are six different packs of fireplaces, all of which cost 99 cents per pack.

For those who are curious, the sixth pack currently has Halloween-themed fireplaces. These include having fireplaces with pumpkins and candle showcases with Jack-O-lanterns.

All of the fireplaces are 4K compatible, meaning that if you do have a 4K TV and an Apple TV 4K, you will be able to get that great picture quality with these fireplaces.

All in all, Winter Fireplace gets 3.5/4 stars from me. It is a free app available in the tvOS App Store, along with also being available for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It’ll be a great way to stay warm (or think that you are getting warm) this holiday season and is great for those who do not have a fireplace in their home.

Rating: 3.5/4 stars
