It looks like the chipmaker for iPhones, TSMC, is on track for a 5nm processor in the A14 chip for the 2020 iPhone lineup.

At the beginning of last year, we already heard that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is aiming to release a 5nm chip in 2020.

A new report by DigiTimes claims that TSMC hit a major milestone during the development of the chip. The infrastructure for the 5nm chip is finished, and this allows customers like Apple to start working on the design for their chips, by using the 5nm process.

The 5nm chip will have more speed and will be more power efficient than current chips. It will also have a logic density of 1.8 times greater than the chips we use today.

TSMC is already reportedly planning on a 3nm chip for 2022.
