Leaks of a new upcoming Augmented Reality App codenamed ‘Gobi’ have been circulating since March. This new app will allow users to get information about the real-world environment. According to the codes obtained by 9To5Mac in March, this app will be implemented with Apple Stores and Starbucks as Apple is testing it as of now. Users will be able to get more information about an Apple Product like its specifications, display, model, etc just by using this new app.
According to Josh Constine, Ex-Editor of TechCrunch, A source has provided him with some files from the iOS 14 Software. These files contain Apple Branded QR codes with a new colorful format. A Twitter user, Unknownz21 had leaked a tag out of the 100 tags discovered by Josh Constine which had a Starbucks QR Code.
These QR codes use colors and colored cones in it’s QR codes instead of a typical matrix of dots and squares. The file name of one of these QR codes is “Cosmic” which features Colorful Cones. According to Josh Constine, “Apple-branded traditional QR codes that show its interest in camera-triggered commerce. Files in Gobi included QRs that opened the Mac Pro and Apple Watch websites, the Star Wars: Rogue One movie in the iTunes Store, and one that opens the Starbucks Card sign-up flow (Update:Â Unknownz21 tweeted the Starbucks QR a week ago).”
Josh Constine also found references to a Gobi comparision shopping website link which does not work at the moment -Â https://www.apple.com/retail-compare. A 3D rendering of an Apple Watch was also found which could be spinned and rotated by users.
The ‘Gobi’ App could also get discount offers for Starbucks Customers – “M01”: { “storename”: “Starbucks Sunnyvale”, “promotion”: “20% discount” }. According to Constine, “The files included the latitude and longitude of 6440 Starbucks stores around the world, suggesting Gobi could use geo-fencing to know when to offer a promotion or content experience.” An image of a Pagoda tower on a small table was also found titled “Sbux_Preview”. Users can play around with this at the cafe while their order is being prepared.
In the Find My App files on iOS 14, Constine found a small video of the old rainbow 3D Apple logo spinning while Awaken by Slyrax plays as the sound. Audio and Haptic Feedback codes have also been discovered by Constine on iOS 14. These sounds and Haptic Feedback codes disclose the way the Find My App will work to locate devices like the upcoming AirTags which was confirmed in an Apple Support video. Read our exclusive article about AirTags here. Constine claims that users will hear encouraging sounds when you’re nearby, ahead or within an Arm’s reach to the lost device. Users will also get discouraging sounds if they are moving away from the lost device. MacRumors also found references to this feature. According to strings found in iOS 13 obtained by MacRumors, “Walk around several feet and move your ”ŒiPhone”Œ up and down until a balloon comes into view,”
