In a time where people are trying to get away from using physical cash to pay for their items due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in the U.S., Louisiana State University (LSU) will be enabling its students to pay for on-campus parking with contactless payment methods such as Apple Pay.
Starting on August 17, students, staff and others will be able to pay for their on-campus parking at LSU with Apple Pay thanks to the college’s new partnership with ParkMobile.
ParkMobile is a free app that enables users to find an available parking spot, choose how long they will be in that spot and pay for their spot through the app, with one of the payment methods being Apple Pay. The app is available on both the iPhone and iPad.
LSU has 650 parking spaces on its campus that have meters on them.
LSU Transportation demand manager Josh Galasso spoke to KATC, a TV station in Lafayette, Louisiana, about what having the ParkMobile app means to him and what it could do for the campus this school year.
“LSU Parking is excited that this feature will be offered to LSU students and employees,” he said. “Offering a contactless option provides a safer and smarter way for students, faculty and visitors to pay for parking on campus.”
ParkMobile is additionally available at other colleges across the country such as Iowa State University, University of South Carolina, University of Alabama and others. There are currently 38 colleges where the ParkMobile can be used at. You can click here to see
Using the app to make purchases for parking spots will be convenient for those that use Apple Cash. Apple Card users can get 2% in Daily Cash each time they buy a parking space with the Apple Card too.
