In a surprise move by Amazon, its video streaming service, Prime Video, now has its own Mac app.

Prime Video for the Mac is available for free in the Mac App Store. The app currently works with macOS Big Sur 11.4 and later versions.

The app includes features such as being able to watch on-demand content from it, Picture-in-Picture, AirPlay, purchase of movies from Prime Video and streaming live broadcasts of the NFL’s Thursday Night Football.

Prime Video is included with Amazon Prime for $99 a year, but for those who do not want all of the features of Amazon Prime, Prime Video can be subscribed to for just $8.99 a month as an in-app purchase through Apple.

Users still have the option to view Prime Video from a browser like Safari or Google Chrome.

Prime Video is also available to stream on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Apple TV and syncs with the Apple TV app.
