It has been reported by 9to5Mac that the Facebook Watch app on the Apple TV has been “discontinued.”

This was confirmed by the source where its readers had reported that the app could no longer be used on the tvOS-based Apple TV. However, the app can still be downloaded on the Apple TV.

When the app is downloaded and used, this is how 9to5Mac states how the app works now:

“Now, when trying to access Facebook Watch on tvOS, users get a message saying that the app “is no longer available” and that the videos can be watched on Facebook’s website.”

This could be an isolated discontinuation, as the Facebook Help Center does currently state its Facebook Watch app is available on select Smart TVs.

On Facebook Watch, you can discover videos and original shows on subjects like sports, news, beauty, food and entertainment. To watch these videos on TV, you can download the Facebook Watch TV app, or stream to a TV from the Facebook mobile app. Learn more about streaming videos from the Facebook mobile app to your TV.”

For now, the only way for users to play Facebook videos on the Apple TV will be through AirPlay.
