Apple has started rolling out iPadOS 16.5 to the public with several new features and changes such as a new Sports tab in Apple News, and more.

This update comes a month and eleven days after the release of iPadOS 16.4.1 which contained important bug fixes and security updates. Apple keeps refining the software experience with every iPadOS 16.x update whilst also fixing security issues.

According to Apple, iPadOS 16.5 includes the following features and changes:

  • Sports tab in Apple News gives easy access to stories, scores, standings, and more, for the teams and leagues you follow
  • My Sports score and schedule cards in Apple News take you directly to game pages where you can find additional details about specific games
  • Fixes an issue where Spotlight may become unresponsive
  • Fixes an issue where Screen Time settings may reset or not sync across all devices

In addition to iPadOS 16.5, Apple has also released iPadOS 15.7.6 for older devices with bug fixes and security improvements. The oldest supported devices are the iPad Air 2, iPad mini (4th generation) from 2014 and 2015 respectively. Apple ended support for these iPads on iOS 15. However, it is simply amazing to see them provide security updates till date for devices that are almost 9 years old, making Apple a clear winner in terms of Security & Software updates.

It is highly recommended to update your iPad to the latest software for the best experience and the best security. What are your thoughts on the new Sports tab in the Apple News App in iPadOS 16.5?
