iPadOS 17 will bring several enhancements across the iPad lineup such as the Lock Screen and the optimized Health app. However, this upcoming major release will drop support for these older iPad models, specifically those with either an A9 or A9X chip.

  • iPad (5th generation)
  • iPad Pro (1st generation, 9.7-inch/12.9-inch)

iPadOS 17 will be supported on the following devices:

  • iPad mini (5th generation)
  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation)
  • iPad Pro (2nd generation or later)

Based on Apple’s release schedule from last year, the company will most likely release the public build in October now that it’s on a different release schedule than iOS 17.
