Apple rolls out watchOS 9.5.2 with security improvements

Apple has started rolling out watchOS 9.5.2 to the public with security improvements. This update comes three weeks after the release of watchOS 9.5.1, which was released on May 30, 2023.

This update provides important security fixes and is recommended for all users.

Apple fixed a security vulnerability in this update:

Kernel Vulnerability: This vulnerability has the potential to allow an app to execute arbitrary code with kernel privileges. Apple has improved input validation to address an integer overflow issue that was causing this vulnerability.
Discovered & Reported by: Georgy Kucherin, Leonid Bezvershenko, and Boris Larin of Kaspersky.

watchOS 9.5.2 is available to install for Apple Watch Series 4 and later. watchOS 8.8.1 has also been released for users running watchOS 8, which means that Apple Watch Series 3 users will also get this security fix. Along with watchOS 9.5.2, Apple has also released iOS 16.5.1, iPadOS 16.5.1, and macOS Ventura 13.4.1.
