It has been a big year for home improvement stores in the U.S. when it comes to them accepting new payment methods.
Now the home improvement chain Menards is beginning to accept Apple Pay in its stores. The company has stores in the following states: llinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
The proof regarding this has been found thanks to Twitter user @Yartctls34 who submitted a photo to us of the chain showing contactless and Apple Pay acceptance at one of its locations in Eau Claire, WI, which is where the company is based out of. The user also told us that both stores in Eau Claire are currently accepting Apple Pay. Users in the Menards subreddit have discovered this as well.
Menards accepting Apple Pay at its stores comes at a time where home improvement stores across the U.S. have begun accepting it as well, creating a domino effect-like situation.
Earlier this year, Lowe’s began accepting Apple Pay in their iOS app (with rumors of Apple Pay being accepted in the store later this year).
Last year, Ace Hardware became a 3% Apple Card Daily Cash merchant after previously being one of the first major home improvement stores to accept Apple Pay in its stores.
Right now, the only other big home improvement retail chain to not currently accept Apple Pay would be Home Depot, despite the fact that its stores do posses the ability to accept the contactless payment method after the company upgraded its card readers with ones that do have contactless payment accepting functionality in then.
With everything said here, Menards accepting Apple Pay in its stores could be a gradual rollout, so if it’s not in your local store just yet, just give it time and it should eventually make its way there.
