Apple announced today that it has added sports media outlet The Athletic to one of its primary sources of sports news with a subscription to Apple News+.
The company also said that Wirecutter is will be added at no additional cost for Apple News app users “early next year.”
Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services, said that the addition of The Athletic to Apple News+ is a major benefit for the news subscription service and sports fans.
“Like so many lifelong sports fans, I am a devoted reader of The Athletic and their fantastic sports reporting and local coverage,” he said. “We’re so proud to now bring sports fans The Athletic in Apple News+ ”” which millions of News+ subscribers are going to love.”
David Perpich, publisher of The Athletic, said it’s a great move for the media outlet.
“We provide subscribers with every sports story that matters, brought to life by the most talented newsroom in the business,” he said. “We’re thrilled to work with Apple News to introduce even more readers to the best-in-class journalism that only The Athletic can produce.”
The Athletic has 450 full-time writers, editors, and producers, and covers English Premier League, NFL, NBA, WNBA, NHL, MLS, PGA, National Women’s Soccer League, NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision, NCAA men’s college basketball, NCAA women’s college basketball, LaLiga, UEFA Champions League, and more.
Apple News+ is available in the United States, U.K., Canada, and Australia.
It currently costs $12.99 a month in the U.S. and includes hundreds of prominent magazines and newspapers, along with including support for exclusive articles and Apple News+ Audio stories.
