According to a report from Bloomberg, one of Apple’s senior executives, DJ Novotney, will be moving on from Apple to pursue another executive role at Rivian as senior VP of programs for vehicles like electric SUVs and pickup trucks.
Novotney has been with Apple for 25 years, playing an influential in developing several generations of both the iPod and iPhone as well as leading development on both the iPad and Apple Watch. Up to now, he recently became the senior executive for future smart home technology. We’ve seen several reports on what Apple could bring to the table for the smart home products. This includes a HomePod with a touch screen on top and even a HomePod-like speaker with a built-in iPad-size display. Even the first beta of tvOS 17.4 suggests Apple is developing its own smart home operating system dubbed “homeOS.”
Here’s what Novotney wrote in a memo to colleagues according to Bloomberg:
“Great products are what we do best and I have been so very lucky along the way to be part of so many amazing teams that developed everything from iPod, iPhone, iPad, Watch and so many more. Apple has been my life, but now is the time for me to move on and help bring to life a new set of products.”
