Whenever a first-generation product launches, there’s usually a second-generation product that comes out about a year after the initial launch. However, Ming-Chi Kuo indicated that the next-generation Vision Pro with a major upgrade wouldn’t launch until 2027 at the earliest. That means we may need to wait even longer to see a significantly improved Vision Pro.

However, he does expect an iterative update to the Vision Pro sometime next year, but the user experience won’t be drastically improved from its current state. It’s also possible that we may not see an updated Vision Pro anytime soon even if it’ll be just a spec bump.

There’s still hope for what’s next for the Vision Pro when it launched earlier this month. If we take a look at the original iPhone, it was priced at $599 with a two-year contract. One year later, the iPhone 3G was introduced, and it was just identical to the original iPhone. The only new feature added was faster 3G connectivity, and Apple dropped the starting price substantially to $199, hence the ad slogan “twice as fast, half the price.”

Apple introduced the Apple Watch in September 2014, and it launched in April 2015. When Apple introduced the second generation of Apple Watch in September 2016, the Series 1 was essentially identical to the original model with the only difference being a faster processor. The minor spec bump in the second generation allowed Apple to drop the starting price of a model at least a year after it initially launched. So while Vision Pro is initially priced extremely high to account for R & D, we could see the price eventually go down with the next iterative update.

Ming-Chi Kuo also expects Vision Pro to launch in several more countries ahead of this year’s WWDC.
