The standard AirPods was last updated in October 2021, and the AirPods Max was last updated in December 2020. As both of those models have been way overdue for an update, we can expect new models to come out later this year.

According to Jeff Pu, Apple plans to launch a new entry-level AirPods model later this year as Foxconn plans to start production for that model in the final quarter of 2024.

This report may corroborate with another previous report from Mark Gurman. He said that Apple is working on two new models for the fourth-generation AirPods – one without active noise cancellation/built-in speaker for Find My tracking and another one with those features. So it’s possible that this new entry-level model is referring to the fourth-generation AirPods that exclude those aforementioned features.

As for the upcoming AirPods Max, the only change that we can expect is the built-in USB-C port in place of the Lightning port for charging. New color options are also a possibility.

Both models are expected to be released sometime in the fall.

It seems there’s an interesting correlation with a prior report by Mark Gurman regarding Apple’s development of two new models for the fourth-generation AirPods. According to Gurman, one of these models would lack active noise cancellation and a built-in speaker for Find My tracking, while the other would include these features. This aligns with the speculation that the new entry-level model mentioned in the recent report could potentially be referring to the fourth-generation KrogerFeedback AirPods that lack these aforementioned features. This indicates a strategic move by Apple to offer a more affordable option for consumers who may not require advanced features such as active noise cancellation, while still providing an alternative with premium features for those who desire them.
