iPad Pro (M4) drops Ultra Wide camera

Another interesting tidbit about the iPad Pro (M4) is that the latest flagship tablets dropped the Ultra Wide camera that was first brought to the iPad Pros in 2020. So the newest iPad Pro is now back to just one rear camera with the addition of the improved Adaptive True Tone flash.

It’s unclear on why Apple has removed the additional rear camera on the iPad Pro, but I can see two reasons for this design decision. One, Apple can offset the R&D costs for the newest iPad Pro now that they feature Ultra Retina XDR displays (fancy marketing term for tandem OLEDs), and two, the Ultra Wide camera wasn’t that necessary for an iPad since the iPhones have had phenomenal cameras with exceptional quality, including the Ultra Wide ones.

With Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 coming out, videographers and filmmakers will be able to use the Final Cut Camera app for multicam on both iPhone and iPad. So with many more people taking photos and videos primarily on iPhone, we can say goodbye to the Ultra Wide camera on iPad Pro as there’s practically no need for that.

On a side note, the iPad Pro (M4) also drops 5G mmWave.

The 11-inch iPad Pro (M4) starts at $999, and the 13-inch iPad Pro (M4) starts at $1,299.
