We are now about a month away from Apple’s WWDC 2024 keynote taking place and all of the talk regarding what the company will unveil and showcase are hot matters of discussion.

With that said, when it comes to tvOS 18, I think it is time we talk about a feature that needs to be added to the Apple TV.

The feature that I am talking about is weather notifications. My reasoning for this is quite simple.

While many Americans and people own an iPhone or other smart device that can give them accurate weather info, the issue of severe weather is not going away anytime soon.

Since Apple has improved its default Apple Weather app significantly over the past couple of years, it might be time to not only add the Weather app to the Apple TV, but to also enable people to get severe weather notifications from it.

Many people have decided to cut the cord and move to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, Peacock, Paramount+, etc., but when they do that, they are not getting Emergency Alert System (EAS) alerts on their TV anymore like what people get with over-the-air antennas or cable and satellite.

This is only an idea but it is something Apple should look into adding to tvOS 18 and the Apple TV as a whole. Of course, Apple could make it so users are not forced to see the updates and be easily able to turn them off, but they should be on by default since they can give real-time and important weather info to users when it is needed the most.

It’s either Apple does this or they open tvOS to allowing third-party weather apps like CARROT Weather, The Weather Channel, and AccuWeather to update their apps that would give support for weather notifications when the Apple TV is on.
