Today, Apple unveiled its plans for the newest version of tvOS with tvOS 18 on the Apple TV.
The first major update to it tvOS 18 is what Apple calls “InSight” which essentially provides information regarding what actors are in a TV show or movie someone is watching on Apple TV+. That feature also includes the ability to hear and see the song that is being played at the time and enables users to add it to their Apple Music library right from it.
Another feature in tvOS 18 is called “Enhanced Dialogue” which provides users with the ability, once turned on from the video player on the Apple TV, it essentially cleans up the dialogue spoken during the scene you are watching. The feature is a machine-learning one and it can slightly diminish background music or sounds in a scene to make the audio clarity much clearer.
Apple has also said for HomePod speaker users “can now enjoy Enhance Dialogue when listening through built-in TV or HDMI-connected speakers, AirPods, and other Bluetooth-connected devices, and when playing supported content on iPhone and iPad.”
When rewinding content on the Apple TV in tvOS 18, closed captions will automatically show up for convenience purposes in case the user was rewinding to catch what was previously said.
Those that connect their Apple TV to a projector get 21:9 support in tvOS 18.
When using the Continuity Camera in tvOS 18, there will now be supported Live Captions in English for users in the United States and Canada.
New screensavers are also coming to tvOS 18 including new ones featuring Snoopy from “Peanuts,” as well as screensavers that clips from Apple TV+ content, and Portraits.
Lastly, Apple Fitness+ has gotten a redesign in tvOS 18 to make it a more simplified and personal user experience. Apple Fitness+ also still remains at its $9.99 per month price.
Apple has not specifically stated which versions of the Apple TV are compatible with tvOS 18, but it is predicted that all versions of the Apple TV 4K are expected to get this update, along with the Apple TV HD being rumored to get the update as well.
tvOS 18 on the Apple TV is expected to be released sometime this fall but an official date has not been publicly announced at this time.
