This September will mark the tenth anniversary since Tim Cook took the stage to introduce the Apple Watch for the very first time. We currently have the Apple Watch Series 9, and as we look forward to what’s coming in Series 10, we were expecting a significant overhaul in its design to commemorate its tenth anniversary as reported by Bloomberg, similar to what Apple did with the iPhone X. However, recent alleged schematics, shared by 91mobiles, of the upcoming smartwatch may suggest that a huge revamp is far-fetched.
If you look closely at the renders, you’ll see that the upcoming device will largely be identical to the current Series 9, which shares the same form factor as the Series 7, which is also an improvement in design that the Series 4 introduced.
Reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the case sizes on the Series 10 will bump from 41mm and 44mm to 45mm and 49mm, respectively. This was similar to how Apple increased the case sizes on the Series 7 from 40mm and 44mm to 41mm and 45mm, respectively, yet it didn’t go through a major redesign as many analysts had hoped.
For the third-generation Apple Watch Ultra specifically, Mark Gurman reported that the next-generation Ultra will look identical to the original Ultra. Therefore, the upcoming Series 10 and Ultra 3 will look similar, if not identical, to their current counterparts.
While some people would be disappointed by the absence of a redesign, hear me out, I love the current design of the mainstream Apple Watch series, it’s a design that stays true to itself to this day. Since the design is so good enough for any user, some may say that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Otherwise, having a significant redesign that could require a new band attachment mechanism would put other long-time Apple Watch users at unease, especially if they own several existing watch bands that wouldn’t work with that mechanism in some form. (Yes, I have a huge band collection for my Apple Watch, send help!)
We expect Apple to announce the upcoming Apple Watch Series 10 as soon as September alongside the entire iPhone 16 lineup with the public releases of watchOS 11 and iOS 18 shortly after.
