Yesterday, we reported the new features that we can expect for the next generation of iPhone SE. Today, a report from The Information indicates that after almost two years of speculation, Apple’s suppliers are finally planning to kickstart production of the said device this coming October.
If this report turns out to be true, this means that the iPhone SE would not be introduced alongside the upcoming iPhone 16 series since Apple usually announces its mainstream smartphones in September. Instead, we’ll likely see the introduction and launch of the iPhone SE 4 early next year. In the past, Apple introduced the iPhone SE in the spring timeframe, several months after the introduction of the mainstream iPhone lineup in the fall to avoid product cannibalization.
- iPhone 6s / 6s Plus [September 2015]; iPhone SE (1st generation) [March 2016]
- iPhone 11 / 11 Pro / 11 Pro Max [September 2019]; iPhone SE (2nd generation) [April 2020]
- iPhone 13 / 13 mini / 13 Pro / 13 Pro Max [September 2021]; iPhone SE (3rd generation) [March 2022]
If history repeats itself, Apple will likely introduced the iPhone SE 4 around March of next year. The next iPhone SE is expected to be a significant upgrade over the current iteration, featuring a larger OLED display, Face ID, and USB-C. However, it may still retain the single rear camera and notch from the iPhone 14, which the device may be based on, but it will inherit the iPhone 16’s rear manufacturing process.
