Vision Pro saw its initial launch in the United States back in February of this year. Just recently, the spatial computer was made available in more countries, including China, Japan, and Singapore. Recent rumors indicate that Apple has put development towards the second-generation Vision Pro on hold and instead focused on creating a more budget-friendly version of the headset. But it appears that we may see that improved display technology coming to a future version of theVision Pro in the next few years.

According to the Korean publication Sisa Journal, LG and Samsung have been developing micro-OLED displays with tandem OLED technology. Apple pioneered this state-of-the-art technology on its iPad Pro (M4) back in May. Marketed as the “Ultra Retina XDR Display”, the latest iPad Pro’s breakthrough display features brightness levels that can go up to 1000 nits (SDR/HDR) or up to 1600 nits peak (HDR only), and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. This feat of engineering was made possible thanks to two OLED panels stacked on top of each other, allowing the display to achieve those unparalleled specs while being more energy efficient and to last even longer with very little chance of burn-in issues that traditional OLEDs may suffer.

Currently, the Vision Pro has two 4K micro-OLED displays that are supplied by Sony, so by bringing this type of technology to a future Vision Pro, it may achieve even higher brightness and contrast ratio levels to allow movies and TV shows to become even more immersive when watching them on Vision Pro. Apple’s vision and the future for Vision Pro seem brighter than ever before.
