Just about a month before Apple’s anticipated announcement of the iPhone 16 lineup, Instant Digital posted alleged details on the battery capacities of the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro models.

If we take a look at the current iPhone 15 Pro models, the smaller 6.1-inch model features a 3,274 mAh (milliampere-hours) battery, and the larger 6.7-inch (Max) model features a 4,422 mAh battery. The upcoming figures that the source posted are 3,577 mAh for the smaller iPhone 16 Pro and 4,676 mAh for the larger iPhone 16 Pro Max. Comparing those figures side by side and doing the math, we’ll see that there will be a 9.25% improvement for the smaller Pro model and 5.75% for the larger Pro Max model.

Breakdown:

  • iPhone 15 Pro (3,274 mAh) / iPhone 16 Pro (3,577 mAh) [9.25% increase]
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max (4,422 mAh) / iPhone 16 Pro Max (4,676 mAh) [5.74% increase]

With those increases in milliampere hours, we can also see even more additional factors that will contribute to improved battery life across both models. First, Apple’s upcoming A18 Pro chip will be more energy efficient as it may possibly be built on the 2nd generation 3nm process. Second, both Pro models are expected to feature larger displays at 6.3- and 6.9-inches, which may increase the physical dimensions of both of those phones ever so slightly, which allow them to fit in a larger battery. Finally, Apple is expected to implement stacked battery technology for those models as Apple can fit more energy or batteries within the same space.

One rumor claims that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature a 30-hour-plus battery life. Additionally, the charging speeds for both Pro models are expected to improve both wired and wireless. Currently, both iPhone 15 Pro models can charge up to 27W when using a supported charger or up to 15W when using MagSafe and other certified wireless chargers. The next Pro models are expected to support 40W wired fast charging and 20W MagSafe charging.

We expect Apple to introduce the iPhone 16 lineup next month at its annual Apple event.
